About Us
Hi, ours names our Sandy & Sherrie,
Thanks for stopping by. We would invite you to return to a slower time when sitting down on the front porch and having a cookie and a cold drink with friends and family was relaxing and enjoyable at the end of a hard day. Life just feels better when you can encourage, help and possibly bring hope to people. Through our stories, recipes, poems or encouragment, we hope you leave feeling better, more motivated and sometimes laughing.
The inspiration for our blog comes from a family heritage dating back to our Great Grandpa. Our Great Grandpa wrote a newspaper column for a small town in West Virginia. Then after his passing, 12 years later and at the requests from his many readers, our Grandma continued the column. Her article was affectionately referred to by our family as “Grandma’s items”. Her work was recognized by the Wall Street Journal when journalist Mr. Morganthaler wanted to do a story on a rural country columnist. Mr. Morganthaler searched all of the eastern U.S., looking for just the right columnist. After narrowing their search to a handful of writers, Grandma’s column was selected. In a quote from the Wall Street Journals description, “A lively column can make fine reading, no matter how limited its news appeal.” In the almost twenty years Grandma wrote, she had subscribers nationwide who wanted to be encouraged and escape to a slower pace of life.
Let us take a few minutes to explain what heritage, hope & love mean to us…
Heritage
Being from West Virginia, believe it or not, we did not know one coal miner growing up. We did however, have grandparents who were farmers. They were hard working people with Christian values. Growing up we often thought they were a little behind the times, but as adults, we find ourselves returning to that vintage but relevant wisdom. We want to share some of that wisdom with you.
Grandma mostly wrote about her family, friends and community sharing the ins and outs of daily life. She would also include inspirational poems, recipes or scriptures along with country wisdom that was usually tied to the weather. Even though the material was mostly just the ins and outs of daily life, people really connected with her and appreciated her candor. She seemed to encourage people and bring joy through her small country life. We want to continue the tradition and leave you smiling or at least feeling encouraged to live life a little more light hearted and motivated. We want to continue that family tradition.
Hope
Many people find hope in various things. Our hope is in the inspired word of God, the Bible. The truth & wisdom found in this ancient book, is still greatly relevant today. We have found that if you try to live each day by the Bibles teachings, life is more simple and peaceful. Because of our beliefs, we hope we can encourage you to see that it is the eternal things in life that matter the most.
Love
What force is greater than love? It is the only thing that can motivate people to be self-sacrificing. We want to encourage everyone to love more. We want everyone to understand, sometimes love means being truthful and tough. Other times we see a lot of examples of unconditional love from God even in our sweet little doxies and they are a great reminder of His unconditional love. If the Bible says the greatest eternal quality is love, how can we not encourage you with love and to love more?
The Doxies
Our grandma loved animals and was always taking care of her pups, cats or chickens. She would often write about mending her animals back to health. We can remember going to visit her and it wasn’t unusual to see a box of baby chicks by the kitchen wood burning stove staying warm. So because our Grandma was very fond of animals and just for fun, we will allow our dachshunds to take over the blog from time to time. Ty, Tobie & Mickey said they feel they need a voice. So, we will gladly share our blog with them. They said they have a lot of important information and stories to share for all “pups” and pup parents.
We always hope you leave inspired and encouraged.
Thanks for stopping by and come back again soon. We love making new friends, so don’t forget to subscribe!
Keep encouraging~
Sandy, Sherrie, Ty, Tobie & Mickey
