Dachshund Secret #1 – We Really Want to Please You
One of the first secrets we doxies want people to know is that in spite of what you think, our hearts are bent on wanting to please and help the people we live with. I mean some of us have lost our way a bit, but overall the general consensuses from the canine world is that we work hard to please the people we love. We spend most of our day thinking of you and ways we can help. Well, let me be completely honest, we also love to think about chasing squirrels, eating treats, eating treats and chasing squirrels, oh did I say that already, excuse me. Sometimes I can distract myself.
Please You By Resting
Let me get back to the subject of how much we love to please. We realize how happy it makes you when we greet you at the door. It doesn’t matter whether you have been gone all day or for just 5 minutes. We rest up a lot to make sure we have full energy for the door greeting.
Helping You With Diner
We also do not mind helping you fix meals, we love sitting with you in the kitchen making sure most of the dropped food gets cleaned up. We know that saves you from having to bend over, we get it. And for us doxies, being close to the floor already makes it really no big deal to us. Just please do not drop onions, chocolate, grapes or tofu. We have to draw the line somewhere, we will not poison ourselves with onions, chocolate or grapes. And tofu is not poisonous but we refuse to eat it, it’s disgusting! YUK!!
Helping You Sleep Better
I bet you didn’t even realize that before you go to bed we make the sacrifice of trying to warm the bed for you every night. Yeah, that’s right. That is why you usually have to tell us to scoot over or move to the bottom of the bed. We make the sacrifice of making all the cool spots warm, it’s all just for your benefit. That is usually why we stretch out in the middle of the bed to be as large as we can be, because we are trying to warm as much of the bed as possible. I know there is a misconception that we are trying to take over, but it’s really all just a work of love from our hearts to yours.
Helping You Clean Up Snow
Some chores we have still need a bit of training, at least in your eyes. For example, if a snow fall has left our loved one cleaning the driveway or the sidewalk, most of us are busting to get out in that snow to help you clean. You probably think we struggle to know the priorities of that snow fall. We usually start plowing the yard, because let’s face it, you would want your bathroom cleaned off first as well. I mean if a big storm came and covered your bathroom, you would be in a panic to get that fixed, right?
I know you all think our outside efforts are misdirected, but we are trying to help you to help us, get it? We do appreciate you shoveling off the porch though, after getting our bathroom cleaned we usually have a lot of snow to shake off and a clean porch is perfect, so “Thanks”, if we forget to tell you.
Helping In All Activities
There are other activities we enjoy doing with you as well. We love laying by the fire and reading a good book, going shopping with you and watching the ball games, no matter what season. These are all great activities to share together. Giving both of us a chance to rest and relax. We just have one request, well maybe two. Could we read more books on how to catch a squirrel? Also, call the cable company and subscribe to the hunting/fishing channel. Those would be great choices to add, we think.
You might be surprised to know some activities we can only dream of helping you. So rest assured our hearts are always inclined to be with you. I believe one day you will give us doxies the opportunity to help with the bigger jobs like maybe, cutting the wood and mowing the yard. Mickey did imagine that cutting the wood would be easier if the trees grew shorter.
Mowing the yard and keeping the grass short is important. We doxies can’t stress enough the importance of keeping the bathroom usable for us. It almost makes us a nervous wreck every week watching the grass getting taller and taller. We dream about helping with that job a lot. We just can’t figure out how to get the mower handle to work for us doxies. To get the handle to work for us the mower doesn’t move, we just do not think those mowers are made with us in mind. Crusoe the celebrity dachshund was definitely right about that.
We Are Made To Help
We feel a lot of relief now that you have a better understanding of some of our motivation. Our hearts do desire to please you in all we do.
Our Lord and Creator desires we all help one another and we are reminded of Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
We felt there was a good bit of misinformation out there and needed to set the record straight. If you have other questions about why we do what we do, feel free to ask. Or just try to think like we do and it should make perfect sense. So the next time one of our distant cousins seems to be in the way, just remember they really just want to please you because that is how the creator made us.
Keep Pleasing,
Tobie & Mickey
